Should I Repair or Replace My AC Unit

Should I Repair or Replace My AC Unit

Should I Repair or Replace My AC Unit?

Should I Repair or Replace My AC Unit? When your household air conditioner is having issues, it can be hard to decide whether AC repair or AC replacement is the better choice. As a homeowner, you certainly don’t want to get rid of your current AC unit if it still has multiple productive years left. However, it could be even more of a problem to stick with the cooling system for longer than you should. So, how do you determine whether repairing or replacing your struggling AC unit is the best choice? Here, we’ll take a look at the most important variables to consider when making this important decision. And whenever you need the best AC repair Austin has to offer, you need to find an expert team to count on.

How Old Is Your Current AC Unit?

When you have an ailing air conditioner, the first thing you should consider is the age of the appliance. On average, household AC units will last for between 10 and 15 years before they start to decline significantly. If you’ve had your current cooling system for more than a decade, you should consistently be monitoring its condition. When an older air conditioner starts to have significant mechanical problems, it’s often only the beginning of the decline phase. More often than not, those issues will only continue to worsen until you pull the trigger on replacing the AC unit. If you know that you’ll probably be replacing your air conditioner in the next year or two anyway, it may not be worth it to spend money on a major AC repair. Instead, you could put that money toward a brand-new unit.

However, if your air conditioner is still relatively new, it’s usually worth it to invest in the repair job rather than replacing the appliance. After all, an AC repair will almost always be less expensive than purchasing a new unit, and a newer system will typically have several productive years left before it needs replacing.

Have AC Problems Become Frequent?

Another variable to consider when deciding whether to repair or replace your AC unit is whether the current problem is an isolated incident. Even if your air conditioner is relatively old, one equipment issue doesn’t necessarily mean it’s nearing the end of its productive lifespan. And with a newer AC unit, one isolated problem is almost never anything overly concerning. But, if your air conditioner has been having frequent mechanical issues, that’s a red flag that shouldn’t be ignored.

When a newer cooling system encounters regular problems, it may mean that there’s an underlying mechanical issue that hasn’t yet been addressed. In this case, our technicians at Austin Heating and Air will be able to diagnose the problem and find a permanent fix. However, when an AC unit that’s more than 10 years old starts to regularly malfunction or encounter problems, it usually means that the appliance is starting to become worn down. In this situation, you can usually save yourself quite a bit of hassle, money, and discomfort by investing in a replacement AC unit.

Could You Benefit From an AC Upgrade?

Sometimes, it makes sense to upgrade your household AC unit even if your current air conditioner has a few good years left. And if you’ve already been considering the idea of purchasing a new unit, you may as well make the move when your current air conditioner is under the weather. That way, you can save some money by avoiding the repair bill.

There are several reasons why you may want to upgrade to a brand-new air conditioner. For one thing, a new AC unit will likely represent an upgrade to your home’s energy efficiency. AC units tend to gradually lose efficiency as they get older, so when you upgrade to a replacement system, you should immediately notice a reduction in your monthly cooling bills. Additionally, air conditioning systems are becoming more advanced all the time, and newer systems tend to have a variety of great features that you may not have on your current appliance. This means that upgrading to a new unit may improve your household comfort and add convenience to your day-to-day life. At Austin Heating and Air, our team will be happy to help you select a new cooling system that satisfied the needs of your household.

Do You Plan on Selling Your Home?

If you expect to be putting your home on the market any time in the next several years, it may be wiser to replace your AC unit instead of repairing it. When you’re ready to sell your house, having a newer air conditioner will increase the home’s value and make it more attractive to potential buyers. On the other hand, if you have an aging AC unit, those potential buyers will likely expect to have to replace it themselves shortly after moving in. That could negatively impact their interest in the house.

From the get go, Kassidy was excellent in scheduling options and even managed to snag me an earlier time slot than previous discussed. She took the time to reach out and confirm. A major shout out to Jamie and Carlo—talk about pros. They were excellent on providing education and explaining the why behind my duct issues. This was the initial inspection and I’ll make sure to leave details once the work is completed.

What an amazing team of people! I came home from vacation and my house was hot. It was hot outside- Austin in the summer hot. I spoke with Petra and she was able to get a technician out within a couple of hours. That in itself is quite a feat given it was after 1:30pm. Jaime Ortega was dispatched and came to check the system. This guy has great customer service skills! He is a is very respectful, polite, communicate well, explains what is going on and is very thorough. He was joined by Carlos, who is also very polite, considerate and knowledgeable. These guys make a really great team. I was told there were several problems and I explained I had been trying to deal with one side of my house not working properly and the other side never getting cool in the summer and warm in the winter. My electric bills over the last 2 months were unsustainable. They went into the attic and traced down all the ductwork, discovered some of it had been installed incorrectly and they formulated a solution. It was also decided by me to replace the entire AC system. By the time this was decided, it was well after 6:30pm. I asked when we would be able to get this to happen and they said - tomorrow! They showed up on time and regretably I did not get the 3rd team member's name- and he deserves a shout out too. They worked for more than 8 hours in that horrible heat- got the system installed and everything cleaned up, packed up, and left the space better than they found it. I really appreciate skilled professionals that respect someone's home and who take the time to talk with me and let me know what is going on, what they are finding and how to take care of my investment. I have chosen for several years to be part of their maintenance membership plan and I have never been disappointed- even when I have an unexpected event - like a system failure while on vacation. I have had the privilege of meeting one of the owners, talking with the administrative staff, and 3 technicians that are really awesome people. These guys care about the quality of work they perform and they work to keep their customers happy. No wonder they have such great reviews! I am very happy with the service I received, the way I was treated and the value they bring to their industry. Keep up the good work! I will certainly tell everyone I know to call you when they need help. Perfect name too- GRANDE AIR SOLUTIONS!!!

A/C stopped working on a Friday night and Isael came out within the hour and got it working. He was really knowledgeable and showed us other areas to keep an eye on. He stayed long enough to make sure the system was lowering the temperature in the house.

Our A/C went out late in the day on a Friday. Grande Air was able to get us in Friday evening and got our A/C up and running in just a short time. Prices were also very reasonable even though it was a weekend evening. We will definitely use them again for future A/C needs.
